I’m Steve Beren, and I am seeking the Republican nomination to run for for U.S. Congress in Washington’s 7th Congressional District against far left Democrat Jim McDermott. During my 2006 campaign, I debated McDermott three times, received extensive media coverage, and created enthusiasm among grassroots Republican and conservative activists. This year, I've challenged McDermott to a series of broadcast debates.
My 2008 campaign has been endorsed by gubernatiorial candidate Dino Rossi, Attorney General Rob McKenna, former U.S. Senator Slade Gorton, Commissioner of Public Lands Doug Sutherland, 2006 U.S. Senate candidate Mike McGavick and many others (CLICK HERE for list of endorsements).
I am to succeed in the August 19 "top two" primary and win a spot on the November general election ballot. (CLICK HERE to read my statement our state's new "top two" primary system)
I am a fiscal conservative, a social conservative, an immigration conservative, and a national security conservative. At the upcoming Washington State GOP convention in Spokane, and at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota this summer, the platform adopted should remain committed to these policies and values.
The American people want to be safe from terrorist attack, so they want a victory strategy in the war against Islamic fascism. They want economic security, so they want taxes to remain low and spending sharply reduced. They want secure borders, so they want an end to illegal immigration. And they want an optimistic moral vision about the future of this country. The Democratic Party is an obstacle to these desires of the American people. A renewed, reinvigorated Republican Party can and will provide the leadership that allows the American people to achieve their dreams and their destiny.
Right in the heart of liberal Seattle, there needs to be a debate. The Seattle area currently lacks political diversity, and this is not healthy. My goal is to start rebuilding the Republican Party in Seattle and King County, and to get a dialogue and debate going on major issues. This is a debate worth having, and in the long run Republican policies, conservative values, and free market solutions will win that debate. Please join my campaign so that together we can change the political atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest.
